Uganda Government To Set Up Porn-Detecting Machine For Monitoring Of Citizens

The Ugandan government has made plans to acquire a porn-detecting device to monitor pornographic content on the devices of her citizens.

This device is able to detect and block any pornographic materials, in form of images and videos taken or saved on the user’s device.

The machine said to cost a whopping $88,000 (UGX 300 million) is reportedly made in South Korea.

The porn detector machine is The Ugandan Minister of Ethics and Integrity Rev. Fr. Simon Lokodo appointed a Pornography Control Committee to monitor and implement the country’s Anti-pornography law.

If found guilty of indulging in porn, the anti-pornography law stipulates a fine of  $3,000 (UGX 10 million) or up to 10 years in jail, or both.

In a 2013 list, Uganda came third for countries that searched gay porn the most closely behind Kenya and Pakistan. Ironically, Uganda is known for speaking out against homosexuality.

Some quarters in Uganda are of the opinion that it’s just an opportunity for the government to spy on the people’s online activities for its own hidden agenda.
