One of the governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barth Nwibe, has received the endorsement of the Igboukwu Development Union (IDU) based in Lagos.
Nwibe received the endorsement in Lagos at an event where a former President-General of IDU, Chief Eric Nwobi, described him as a perfectionist and urged delegates to the primary election to vote for him.
At the event, Nwibe presented his manifesto and asked the IDU for its support to ensure that his dream of governing Anambra becomes a reality.
He said the state needs a proactive and visionary governor that would make it become the second leading state in Nigeria based on global critical indices of development.
“Anambra is bleeding from uncontrollable profligacy and wastage in government. Hard earned tax money is daily being squandered on cosmetic and unproductive projects across the state. Aside the issue of security of lives and property where the current administration improved on the gains of the past governors, Senator Chris Ngige and Mr. Peter Obi, the current administration has not done much in other sectors. This is more worrisome considering the huge resources accruing to the government from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as well as the over N75 billion (in cash and investments) which it reportedly inherited from Obi’s administration. My mission is to propel the state to excellence through purposeful and visionary leadership that would harness her human capital, natural resources and entrepreneurial spirit for sustainable economic activities” he said.
Nwobi assured him of the Union’s support, saying that they would temporarily relocate to Anambra state to ensure that he becomes the party’s standard bearer in the November 18 governorship election in the state.
He said: “I have confidence in him. I have known him for years having worked closely with him in the past at the IDU. He pursues only just causes. Bart has a great intellect. He is a perfectionist; it is either he gets anything he does right or he does not do it at all. I am convinced that he will work without asking for reward because he is selfless in every sense of the word. This is the pedigree of the man I am endorsing to be the next governor of Anambra State. I call on all Anambrarians to give their support to him to enable him succeed in this project. I have no doubt that he will surpass Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State,” Nwobi said.
