The Lagos State police command has paraded a woman at the Lagos police after attempting to commit suicide after jumping into the Lagoon.
The woman, Abigail Ogunyinka was rescued by fishermen in the after a house who follows the woman to the scene raised an alarm of the action.
Abigail in her words said,’ she was owing a debt of N150,000 to a Micro finance bank in the State and couldn’t withstand the shame of the bank coming to quest for her debt and the embarrassment that might follow such’.
The woman who resides in Alakuko area In but does her Amala business at Sango had choose to take her own life due to shame the bank harassment might bring to her.
‘We do pay back the debt every week but i couldn’t meet up with the payback policy since about two weeks due to some financial constrains i’m facing at the moment’.
The CP advice the banks to always be on the watch to identify the payment return capacity of every loan applicant before granting such loan to the person.
He also assured the woman of the payment of her debt after due consultaion to ascertain the fact of the debt might have been verified by the police.
It will be recalled that the suicide cases in the Lagoon area of Lagos is increasing and alarming after a doctor’s remains was also recovered from the Lagoon on Thurday.
The Doctor, Allwell Orji, Essien Attah, drove himself to the third mainland bridge where before diving into the water.
Fatai Owoseni also said the Lagos command will increase the patrol in the Lagoon areas of the state and also partner with people that do their businesses around the water, such as fishermen.
