Gunmen, suspected to be hired assassins, have shot dead aAfegbua, who hailed from Okpella community, was the immediate past chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area.
It was learnt that he was killed on Thursday morning, along the Benin-Auchi expressway.
It was gathered that the deceased was travelling to Benin on a convoy when he was attacked at Ogbemudia farm in Uhumwonde Local Government Area of the state.
It was also learnt that two other persons who were with him were also wounded by the attackers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Nkombe, confirmed the incident.
Nkombe explained that the policemen had been deployed in the area to fish out the hoodlums.
“He was in a convoy going to Benin when he was attacked. He died on the spot while two others were rushed to a hospital and they are responding to treatment.
“Our men are out now for the hoodlums. As we speak, our patrol team, SARS, anti-cultism teams have been sent to the area to comb the bushes around.”
A family source, who did not want to be named, however, said that the late Afegbua would be buried according to Muslim rites.
