The Imo State commissioner of police, Taiwo Lakanu, has confirmed the killing of the most wanted kidnap kingpin, Henry Chibueze, popularly known as Vampire.
Gunmen suspected to the gang members of the dead abductor had on January 27, process .invaded the premises of Owerri High court, where their gang leader was facing trial, freed him, other inmates, and wounded many in the process.
The state Governor, Rochas Okorocha, had immediately announced a N5m reward to anybody that would give information that would lead to the rearrests of the 30-year-old dreaded kidnapper.
Confirming the news on Thursday morning, a visibly elated Lakanu, said that a combined team of the inspector general of police special squad, the Rivers state police command and his men engaged Chibueze and his gang in the Ikwerre forest in Rivers state in the early hours of Thursday.
He said that while Chibueze was shot dead during the exchange of gunfire, five members of his gang were arrested together with arms and Ammunitions.
He, however, disclosed that the force headquarters public Relations officer will be in the state at 12 noon to address a press conference.
