The Vice Chancellor of Adeleke University , Ede in Osun State , Prof . Dayo Alao , has said Nigeria can get out of the current economic crisis if it focuses and invests heavily in agriculture .
He said this in Osogbo on Thursday at an interactive session with the journalists .
The vice chancellor, who is a former Editor of Daily Times, said apart from agriculture , Nigeria should also focus on entrepreneurship , saying the problem of unemployment would be reduced drastically .
The VC said , “Nigeria does not have business going into recession . There is no time you plant crop here in Nigeria and it does not thrive . But we left all that for cheap money from oil.
“ Now the price of the oil has gone down and that is why we find ourselves in this mess. But we can come out of it if we invest in and focus on agriculture . ”
He explained that the university allowed indigents students to work at some of the factories being run by the university to pay part of their fees.
According to him , inculcating business acumen in the students will make them to be less dependent on others for job after the completion of their studies .
A business consultant, Dr . Jimoh Agboola , also said entrepreneurship studies should be emphasised and urged the youths to embrace mentorship, saying they would be able to learn from the mistakes of others.
With , this , Agboola said they would be able to float businesses , which would outlive them.
